Rockefeller Center is a lovely tourist destination where crowds congregate day and night. Yet like everywhere in New York, there is often a police presence. NYPD patrol cars can be seen cruising the plaza or parked with the patrolmen out on foot. On the day of this painting, two mounted police officers were on patrol near the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center. The sight of the two mounted officers near the crowd caught my attention. As always, I was prepared with my sketchbook and camera and took a few photos for use in the studio. The finished painting is the result of digital collage that brought the crowd and the policemen together in a pleasing composition. 30 Rock II is the second in a series of paintings inspired by Rockefeller Center. The address of the location is 30 Rockefeller Plaza. I like 30 Rock better.
