Commission Process
- The client and artist collaborate about subject matter (portrait, landscape, cityscape, etc.), color palette, size, dimensions, style, time demands.
- The artist prepares a scale model of the painting along with a firm cost proposal for the painting. Artist makes such modifications to the proposal and the scale model as are agreed between the parties until the client is happy to move forward with the proposal.
- Upon client’s approval of the scale model and proposal, artist provides artist with a commission contract based on the agreed upon terms. For artist to begin work on the commission, client pays an initial deposit of 25% of the agreed upon total commission price for the painting and consents to the terms of the contract (either by email or by signing the contract in person). *Note that the commission price does not include the cost of framing.
- Artist proceeds with the painting. If client requests any substantive changes to the proposal after the initial deposit is paid, artist will provide an amended contract reflecting the new details that have been agreed.
- The artist completes the painting and presents painting to client. Client accepts the painting and pays artist the remaining 75% of the commission price. If client is not satisfied with the painting and elects not to accept the painting, artist retains the initial 25% deposit and the painting and client has no further obligation to artist.
- If applicable, client and artist agree on a frame and mat combination at framer’s shop and client pays for such framing services. Once framed, the finished painting is delivered to the client (including frame, if selected by client).
