Bus Stop II – Sarajevo

This city scene is like many of modern central Europe. This is no ordinary street corner, though. In June of 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in this street crossing which led to World War I. Nevertheless, this location in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina spoke to my sense of the ordinary being genuine and special. Even through wars and discord in this city, order prevails. This painting challenged my design process as well as my painting practice. The brilliant color of the trolly and the reflected light on the car contributed to a scene of interesting proportion. This is not the first attempt to making this painting. I am happy with this one, though.
