This painting is the result of wanderlust of which I am guilty. I traveled with my wife and 20 others from all over the world to the Baltic states, Finland and Russia. While in Russia, Moscow, and more precisely, Red Square I was transfixed by the beauty of Saint Basil Cathedral. Saint Basil Cathedral was Built by Ivan the Terrible. It is magnificent in design and construction with all of the lovely domes of many colors. But, nearby, a sculpture commemorating the the end of the Time of Trouble is early Russian history.
I photographed the cathedral many times from many locations and perspectives. But, I found the most interesting composition close at hand involving both the cathedral and the sculpture. The result is the painting, BLUE SKY RED SQUARE. Yes, the Sky is BLUE in Moscow and it was so that day in Red Square.
